Jay signed for the Burnley academy side from Barden High School and having shown the attacking qualities that brought him to the club, he was offered a professional contract at Turf Moor ahead of the 2007/08 season.

The 17 year-old striker was the only second year apprentice that was took onboard following the 2006/07 season. He will be hoping that he will be able to take his excellent goalscoring record from previous seasons into the first team and the Coca Cola Championship.

Rodriguez accepted a new two year contract which was offered to him by the club in May 2008.
